Meet some of our wonderful volunteers – we couldn’t run the shop, cafe and post office without them!

Pauline: “To be part of the amazing team that manages the shop, cafe and post office is an honour.”

Anne: “I’ve volunteered since the beginning. I get a lot of pleasure out of belonging to the village and pride it its community spirit.”

Heather: “I wanted to give back. We moved away a few years ago but I still volunteer.”

Jake: “It’s a good way to get work experience and for me, it’s led to a Saturday job. The extra money is great and I enjoy it!”

How it works

We’ve been very successful in recruiting and retaining our volunteers and we aim to make volunteering easy.

The amount of time you give is up to you. Some people have a regular shift each week, others volunteer once a month or fill in when extra hands are needed.

Volunteer shifts are around 3.5 hours – from 8.00am to 11.30am, 11.30am to 3pm and 3pm to 6.30pm. Every hour is valuable and very much appreciated.

Full training is provided and you will never be left on your own. There is a great team spirit among the volunteers, and many have been giving their time for years.

If you want to find out more about volunteering we would love to hear from you.

Post Office Volunteers

We have just completed the first round of training for Post Office volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for Post Office services, please look out for the next training block. In the meantime, do give our newlytrained volunteers encouragement and time to settle in!

Opportunities for young people

We actively support young people into work and welcome youth volunteers as a stepping-stone to future employment. There are several ways young people can get involved:

Young volunteers aged 14-18 are very welcome and full training is provided.  Parental permission is required and shifts are usually 4.30-6.30pm on weekdays. Volunteering with us can also count towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award. We are happy to help with more information – please feel free to ask!

Work experience is available over the summer holidays in cooperation with Huish Academy. Students are given 2-week blocks and receive full training. We are proud to say that many have gone on to find part-time or full time jobs.

Paid, part-time positions for young people are available on Saturdays and during school holidays. Applicants must be over 15 and have parental permission.
